My owne dear Wife,
We are marching all the time now. We are now on the R Road runing from Atlantar to Chattanooga. It loock like we are retreating again but our officers say not. The yankeys ar trying to flank us on our left below Chattanooga, we are now in the edge of Georgia at a place called Greysvile. I think we will go down about Rome Georgia to head [off] the yankeys that are trying to get down in Georgia and North Ala. I cannot tell much about what will be done up here there be some hard fighting done up hear some whare.
We herd some heavy firing about Chatanooga this morning I supose they were shelling about that point. I understan they some hard fighting done down below Chatanooga on yesterday. and we herd to day that the yankeys ware fighting at Rome in Georgia and that had whiped our men and burnt the town up but I don’t know as therer is any truth in the report. We can hear almost any thing up hear now.
